Southwest Sanitation to be major tournament sponsor for the Paws Outing
Southwest Sanitation (SWS) has signed on as a major sponsor for the Paws Outing, the annual charitable golf tournament benefiting the Vernon County Humane Society (VCHS). The four-person scramble will be held for the 5th consecutive year at the Viroqua Hills Golf Course, with a shot gun start at 1:00 p.m. A complimentary lunch featuring Bronco Billy’s Black Angus burgers and brats along with side dishes from Borgen’s Café will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Being a part of the Paws Open is not new to SWS which has been a business hole sponsor and silent auction donor for the past several years. “This year we are taking on a larger role,” noted Bill Meeks, co-owner of SWS, who shared that he and his wife Laura decided to help underwrite the golf tournament because they believe in the VCHS mission of helping homeless and unwanted pets. “Both my wife and I are animal lovers, and have a soft spot in our hearts for dogs and cats, especially those that are abandoned or unwanted,” Meeks said. So much so, that over the past 30 years, Bill and Laura have been a part of Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin, fostering numerous dogs until good homes could be found and also during that same course of time, adopting 8 goldens into their own family and into their business. Anyone walking through the doors at SWS can expect to be greeted by one or more of the Meek’s dogs, the newest who is an adorable puppy.
Supporting local community efforts is an important part of how SWS does business which is evident on their Facebook page where frequent recognition is given to other local businesses and events. Meeks acknowledges gratitude for the community support that has allowed SWS to become a successful area business. He believes it is important for business leaders to get involved in charitable events like golf outings, “because it raises awareness of causes where people can get involved with something they believe in, do something recreational they enjoy, and in turn make a difference in our community.” Meeks hopes that other businesses will join SWS in sponsoring charitable events noting, “How well a community takes care of its’ less fortunate (animals or people) says everything about the quality of life in that community.” The Paws Outing is one such event where Meeks adds, “working together we can build a better community for all of us to live and work in.”
Additional business sponsors are welcome for the Paws Outing and golfers may register up to the start of the event. Information on the Paws Outing is available on the SWS Facebook page or may be obtained by contacting the Vernon County Humane Society at 608-637-6955 or the Viroqua Hills Golf Course.
